Carrageenan is a natural gelling agent derived from various red seaweeds in the Rhodophycea family. It is used in the ancient art of marbling to provide a viscous surface and thicken the water to “float” paints and dyes across. It is an excellent medium used for fabric and paper marbling alike. Prepare at least 12 hours in advance of use. The basic proportions are 2tbsp of Carrageenan to 1 gallon of water.
